August 27th, 2007 Rachel

Amazing day. There are no words to describe how surreal and lovely everything felt. When I peaked my head in and saw the place settings in the library, all I could think was “for us? really?”. The conservatory lived up to all the ideas in my head that have gotten bigger and bigger over the last seventeen months…and more. Arriving in the garden and peaking around the corner to see Adam standing there peaking right back was a crazy high…I couldn’t stop smiling all day and haven’t really stopped since…except to blow my nose (bad cold two days later…I somehow consider myself lucky).

Alright - enough of the mushy gushy love stuff…back to work. I’m sure I’ll be hanging out around here a lot more now that I don’t have rose petals and fondant on the brain.

(Who am I kidding - I always have rose petals and fondant on the brain…)

Take a minute and breathe.

August 19th, 2007 Rachel

This is the big week - all of a sudden, the wedding is here, and though that’s meant that my activity here dwindled down to nothing, sometimes other things need to take precedence…and the last four weeks have been full of “things”.

I’m at LAX, with my big, poofy white bag - Wedding store name emblazoned on the top just to make sure that anyone and everyone notices that I’m getting married and this is my dress. Congratuations all around and one of the guys running the security check asked for me to “bring photos! we want to see how it goes!” - creepy, yes. But what else is there to do but smile and nod when they’re holding the key to getting on that plane?

Reflecting on the last sixteen months of planning (okay. I really didn’t start planning anything until 12 months out - and then I didn’t really really start nailing the details down until February of this year.), there’s a lot I learned and many of those little “if I knew then what I know now” kinds of things. But it’s all come together - and I’ve only had one semi-meltdown about a table that went from 9 people to 7.

But it doesn’t matter. None of the silly little things like the wedding programs being the wrong color (they did) or not having a wedding band until a week before (again…true) are going to get in the way of this…because then I’ll miss it. And this is it.

So, I’ll try to get a couple more entries in while the last details are checked of the list and family and friends start to trickle in.

Life is good, and this week is going to be amazing.

Sounds like somebody’s got a case of the Julys…

July 10th, 2007 Rachel

See that month by month link list of archives?

Notice anything missing?

That’s right. Subliminal or not, July is not the best month for me to blog. I have no idea why. I think of things. Posts still form in my head. But somehow the sun comes out and I want to go for a walk outside. Or…like right now…a kitten is rumbling softly on my chest, curled up all furry and cozy and I’m fighting putting my computer around just to sucumb to some glorious cuddles.

I’ve resorted to blogging about not-blogging, which isn’t very blogworthy. (However now July will appear in the archives for sure, so phase one of Operation Inspiration is complete!)

Work is also keeping my happily occupied. And the wedding is 43 whole days away. Yowza. I suppose I have reason for my lack of musings…but I could at least resort to some photos…? Or movie reviews…?

I’ll get going on that.

But first…

My favorite photo from our Sunday afternoon in Newport beach. I have no idea why the completely accidental abstractness of it all gives me goose bumps and a goofy little smile. But it does.

beachy goodness

I could probably carry on for a while about the symbolism and how it relates back to time flying by and love not always being perfect but somehow it works and remains beautiful…But since it’s July, I’ll just say “Thanks Jenn!” and get back to snuggling with sleepy kittens.

Blogging makes the heart grow fonder

December 10th, 2006 Rachel

I’m not sure if we’ll do the same, but the more I think about this idea, the more it grows on me.

Chris Pirillo and Latthana “Ponzi Indharasophang tied the knot tonight at a wonderful wedding ceremony in Bellevue, Washington. Of course, being the incurable bloggers that they are, they both had their wedding vows scheduled to automatically post their their blogs during the ceremony right at the actual time that they were saying them (Chris’ vows & Ponzi’s vows).

Very cute.

How to make your friend faint (or need a smoke)

December 7th, 2006 Rachel

Here’s a selected transcript from a recent IM with one of my best pals (and bridesmaids!)…to set the scene from my point of view, I had just arrived in Vegas on Monday — Al was at work, so understandably in a different mind space.

Rachel: I found a dress!

AH: where did you find it? What does it look like? Details woman details!

Rachel: BCBG – black with ivory trim with black lace overlaid on top of the trim…kimono style, sleeved, v-neck, loose, elegant, shiny, COMFORTABLE, but stylish

AH: it’s black?

This is where I first started to hesitate. Black is bad? Since when? Have I committed a Billboard faux pas and didn’t know it? Hence my justifying below…

Rachel: there were some trendier items that actually looked quite amazing but for that much money I wanted it to work at a business thing, at mod…whatever

AH: long or short

Rachel: just past the knees

AH: nice…can’t wait to see the pictures

Rachel: i’m so excited!!

Insert a bit of conversation that lasted long enough for me to not pick up on why Al would be talking about bridesmaid dresses all of a sudden. Seemed random, but she’s an attentive friend and a darn fine bridesmaid so it didn’t surprise me that much.

AH: so what’s the plan for the bridesmaid dresses… they should probably be knee length, or just below the knee…

Rachel: yeah, that’d be about right - remember no air conditioning, so floor length might be too hot

AH: Is your mom ok with the non-traditional dress?

Rachel: non-traditional?

AH: you know what I mean… white… long….

Rachel: i haven’t picked a dress… :^)

AH: i’m really confused

…This is where I stared at my computer for about three whole minutes trying to understand how we got here…

Rachel: OMG I was talking about the dress for tonight…HAHA…I just realized where the confusion lay

AH: OK… gave me a heart attack

Rachel: that’s why you were like “it’s black?”

AH: Dude seriously… gave me a heart attack…

Rachel: I’m dying…that was too funny

AH: “I can re-wear it at MOD” comment…holy crap…I was actually sweating…I love the dress, but not for your wedding

Rachel: you are SO nice - i can’t believe you weren’t strangling me through the computer

AH: I was trying to find a way to suggest changing into that dress after the ceremony…that way you can dance…I think I actually need a cigarette

Kids. Don’t try this at home.

Love you, Al. :-)
