When the cat’s away, the mouse will…make scones and redecorate?
April 5th, 2007 RachelIt must be genetic. Adam leaves for a week and all of a sudden I have the urge to do things that I haven’t done in years or wouldn’t normally ever being inclined to do…which would be a highly scandalous exciting proclamation if what I’m talking about included things like all night benders, tattoos and singles bars. But no, the highlights so far have included things like my sink remaining dish-free for longer than 2 seconds (and by that I mean I’ve been putting glasses/mugs/plates in the dishwasher right way…it’s almost obsessive), couch and television reorganization, and a delicious batch of scones.
Scones.
Admittedly, I was a fairly regular baker in a previous life as an Torontonian. But since moving to L.A. my muffin pans have been stacked carelessly in a kitchen cabinet and I’ve had the same can of PAM for over 3 months. Not anymore! After a delicious meal at P.F. Changs with one of my favorite people in the entire world, we wandered downstairs to Harry & David’s, which not so oddly enough I’d never been into. WOW. Muffin mixes…scones of many flavors…and specialty pans.
Helloooooo, domestic goddess.
Okay, not quite - I’m still too busy and too focused on fifty million other things to go back to being a really regular baker, but one batch of delish scones is enough to make me think that every once in a while, Starbucks just isn’t quite enough.
