iPhoto — export, limit the dimensions of the photos, then re-upload mini version. Took a couple tries, and beans didn’t seem to want to shrink (diva that she is) but ultimately, I win.

Eeks. Didn’t work so well. iPhoto why must you toy with me by being so functional until I need to perform such a silly little task?
Anyone else have any Mac friendly photo resizing/compression software apps they might recommend? Preferably free or low in price and sublimely amazing?
After the third sign in the mall about $20 a month for unlimited downloads to your phone, I decided to do some investigating and see if I could get some more information. Not for me (I’m in Toronto at the moment and not planning on giving the blackberry up anytime soon), just for my own self interest.
I walked into one of the mobile provider stores and first looked for handy literature on the topic. Let’s say I’m Jill Every-Woman phone user and the sign got me in the store…what next?
Nuttin’. Lots of information on a variety of topics, but no flyer providing the necessary details to fully understand where my $20 each month would be headed and what I get (or don’t get) out of this arrangement.
Next step - I approached the girl at the counter.
“Hi, I was curious - could you tell me a bit more about the music downloads promotion on your sign?”
“Oh yeah, sure!”
“Great - so are the downloads sent directly to your phone, or can you access them from other places, like your computer.”
“Are you looking for a new phone?”
“Not really - just wanted to learn a bit more.”
“Okay…well, the music goes to your phone yes.”
“Can I transfer them to my computer from there? Or put them on other devices?”
“Sure they can go on your computer.”
“Is this a tethered subscription? So, if I decide to cancel the phone/plan, the music no longer works?”
pause
“How do you mean…?”
“Well, if I’m paying the $20 a month, then decide once my contract is up that I want to go with a different service provider, or I don’t want to pay that $20 a month anymore, can I still listen to anything that I had previously downloaded?”
“Oh.” pause “A lot more information is on the Amp’d website…a bunch of the phones are out right now, but there’s some really great phones coming out in the next few months.”
“Gotcha…well, have a great day and thanks for your help!”
What if I didn’t know the questions to ask? While nice, and meaning well, the cashier was either ill informed or well instructed to avoid the detailed questions. $20 per month for unlimited downloads sounds great, right? Great enough that if you didn’t know it, then it would be easy to assume that the deal is exactly what it says…when it isn’t.
Oh, and I checked out the website she mentioned - not only was there very little in terms of details on what I’d be investing my $20/month in, but they were pushing far more video content then music. Plus, the plan is tied to a $119 per month calling plan.
Ouch. Misleading and expensive. I’ll stick with my blackberry and power pink iPod.
