Unlikely Financial Advice
Adam and I received a bit of a shock yesterday — over the past 7 months we’ve been overpaying our rent by $100 a month. A $700 holiday “bonus” of sorts. What a great surprise; beyond the December rush, this is something we plan on continuing. $100-$150 extra dollars a month means in 12 months we could afford a pretty nice little vacation.
That hundred dollars would have just as easily been kept in a savings account or under a mattress, but somehow this perspective seems to be the most promising (for following through) as well as the most rewarding. Wouldn’t it be great if we got to the point where with that smaller added contribution we had a month that was “rent free”?
It’s all psychological, but at the same time it is surprisingly effective.
