THIS is Awesome

One of my ambitions, besides my day job, school, and the "super secret" (not so much…) plans with Court, Adam and Slava, is to get a York University Free Culture chapter going at York University. As of right now, there is only ONE Canadian University (Carlton) that is involved in this program.
Here’s another great example of what a group of like-minded individuals are capable of, within the culture of Free Culture ambitions. The above link is to the BoingBoing article; here is the link to their documentary of the demonstrations.
There’s also a Canadian Free Culture blog here; over the next few months, while I take a breather from school and immerse myself in the incredible world that Predixis opens up, I will be educating myself on all of "this". I’ve been in touch with Gavin Baker, from the University of Florida chapter, who has been incredibly inviting and offered a great deal of information and ways to get caught up.
In the fall, I’m going to be applying to the York/Ryerson Communication and Culture Program.
So, Fall of 2008 I will be armed and ready to get the ball rolling. I’ve chosen to take that time for a few reasons – first being that I only have two more months left of school; getting the official ball rolling would be difficult. Second is that I am not well connected amongst students at York. At all. Partially this is the nature of a commuter environment, but it is also because up until now my involvement in any programs/associations/events outside of going to class has been…nonexistent. I also want to take the time to *really* understand the issues, what’s at stake, and what can be done – from a Canadian perspective.
Alright, enough – it just feels better to have vocalized (with my keyboard) these future goals. If anyone has any thoughts or wants to get involved, lemme know. My ears (and email inbox) are always open.
