Ode to my jeans
February 12th, 2006 RachelI [heart] you.
Jeans are the best creation ever made. I don’t even know how many pairs I have, but I know it out numbers the pairs of black, brown, khaki ones. When I find a new pair of jeans that fit, I have to resist the urge to buy several pairs…it’s a glorious affair. I wear them with sneakers, boots, heels, sandals…they are so fabulously versatile. Everything about then just screams comfortable, and yet they are so easily dressed up with a nice purse, snappy shoes and a necklace.
What will I do one day when jeans can no longer be a part of my daily attire?
I’ll have to do a lot more shopping, that’s for sure…and not for just tee shirts, which make up much of my wardrobe. I went downtown a few weeks ago for some dancing fun. I wore jeans. We danced and danced…and slept well that night. The next morning we woke up and went for breakfast. I wore jeans.
A different pair of jeans. A "day" pair…as opposed to a "night" pair.
I wonder who the jeans that fit so weirdly are made for…the ones have have a waist twelve inches too big but are cutting off the circulation mid-thigh. What would I wear if jeans did not exist? Skirts? Other types of pants? It’s to strange a situation to think about.
How has this magnificent wardrobe staple made it’s way into the closets of so many over such a vast number of years? What secret does it hold that makes it so exquisitely easy to mold and shape into pants, shorts, skirts, jackets…even purses (okay, personally I think that last one goes too far)? It’s always a bit of a decision what to wear…the dark ones? the kind of childish ones with the stonewashed-ness? The ones with the little gems on the bum pockets…(well, with SOME of the little gems, half of them fell off the first time they were washed)? The old favorites (ah, when Roots was good…)? Or one of the others that look so similar it makes it hard to come up with a name that makes them different?
I hope they never go out of style. And I hope I always have a job where it is perfectly acceptable to wear them.
At least one day out of the week.
Oh.
(I couldn’t resist…)
